Details of Genre’s and Conventions: Drama

As defined on www.filmsite.org/genres; Dramas are serious, plot-driven presentations, portraying realistic characters, settings, life situations, and stories involving intense character development and interaction. Usually, they are not focused on special-effects, comedy, or action, Dramatic films are probably the largest film genre, with many subsets.

The genre that we have chosen in for our production is Drama,we chose this because we are aiming to focus on real situations keeping the film as close to reality as possible, this would exclude special effects and deliberate comedy within the piece. Our film is based on serious issues that take place in everyday life that cause high emotions and reactions from the audience, which follows the Drama conventions nicely.

Details of chosen certificate; 18

We chose the certificate of 18 for our film, because we felt it was most appropriate for the audience we were trying to attract (young adults). although the scenes that can be considered 18 are not shown in the 2 minutes were are asked to present, there would most defiantly be scenes of an 18 ages later on.

The bbfc (British board for film classification) http://www.bbfc.co.uk/downloads/pub/Guidelines/BBFC%20Classification%20Guidelines%202009.pdf describe what the certificate 18 may have. The uses of drugs and future sex scenes with the bad language would thus class our film as such.
